March Edition Part II of the Sonic Pioneers!

Welcome to another edition of the EDGE Sound Research newsletter, Sonic Pioneers. As always, we are thrilled to have you a part of our journey to fundamentally change how we perceive reality starting with reimagining audio experiences.

Here is a recap of the March Part I newsletter in case you missed it:

The Latest with EDGE Sound Research:

April is approaching and oh boy will it be a crazy month for EDGE Sound Research. In the next few weeks we will be launching our full ResonX Alpha Program with 50 Alpha Users in both gaming and audio engineering. We have sub-assembled almost half the units so far, and are just waiting on the 3D print shells to arrive to finalize each build. The first batch of the Alpha Units is expected to be shipped out the first week of April (As long as everything goes according to the plan!)

In addition, we will be participating in multiple events starting this Saturday March 25th in Minneapolis as we showcase our ResonX Bundle at Rem5 VR and attend the Call of Duty League RØKKR Major II.

Most importantly, in a few weeks we will unveil our first stadium experience which alters how you enjoy sports viewership in the future.

Lastly, we have a new website with revamped branding rolling out at the start of April. Get ready for a journey through the sonic dimension.

Behind the scenes as we prepare for the Rem5 VR event!

Holy Sh*t Experience of the Week:

For this week's experience I took the liberty of submitting the trailer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Teaser Trailer. I think I speak for Star Wars fans everywhere when I say we’ve been waiting for something like ever since Ewan McGregor first took on the role of Kenobi in Episode I.

Gaming is going NUTS!

It’s been another interesting couple of weeks in the world of gaming, to start things off the NFL signed a deal to create an official VR game. Not much has been revealed as of yet of what exactly that is going to look like, only promises of an “immersive athlete-led experience ''. With VR gaming on a continuous rise for the past few years, it's definitely exciting to see an innovative step in sports gaming outside of the usual annual Madden release or the numerous Mario sports titles.

Coming in next, we have a surprise announcement from the RPG juggernaut that CD Projekt Red. After being silent for the past couple of years about future releases, CDPR released a teaser for a new saga in the world of The Witcher. The only information we have so far is that the addition is set to Epic Games' newest engine, Unreal Engine 5. After the half-cocked release that was Cyberpunk 2077, we definitely feel some caution with an announcement like this, but at the same time, the Netflix adaptation as a well critically acclaimed success of The Witcher 3 gives us some tinges of excitement to see what else The Continent has to offer.

Finally, in another bit of news that we are both excited and at the same time wary of, Ubisoft is announcing the future implementation of cloud technology called Scalar. With this piece of technology, the gaming giant claims that they will be able to build worlds bigger than we have seen so far from them. Initially, the prospect of a larger world ready to explore is definitely an exciting concept, however, Ubisoft has been known as of late to create large open sandboxes that just feel plain empty. Hopefully, we are proven wrong, because as the recent success of games like Elden Ring and Pokémon Legends: Arceus have shown us, gamers are more than ready to explore wide-open worlds.

News in Audio Engineering/Production:

For this edition's news in Audio Engineering/Production we have quite a few exciting things to talk about. First up we have Polk's newest addition to their home audio line up, a compact sound bar at 15in that is still capable of delivering Dolby Atmos as well as being compatible with their array of wireless speakers. It definitely sounds like an amazing piece of audio tech for those with limited space that still want the full 3D audio experience.

Following that we have yet another new announcement from Apple, this time with optimization to their software many audio engineers have been waiting for. By providing an easier access to spatial audio compatibility, Apple is giving engineers and producers alike new tools that let them better mix and master their own three dimensional audio experiences.

The last thing we have today in the audio tech goodness is Spotify's release of their new, and aptly named, Car Thing. The Car Thing allows Spotify users to access their song libraries and playlists in a way that is safer for the road, preventing drivers from having to look at their phones to find whatever song they want as their driving anthem.

Teenage Engineering X Offwhite have worked together to release both a contemporary streetwear line as well as a special version of their OB-4 Magic Radio. Read More.
