May Edition of the Sonic Pioneers!

Welcome to another edition of the EDGE Sound Research newsletter, Sonic Pioneers. As always, we are thrilled to have you a part of our journey to fundamentally change how we perceive reality starting with reimagining audio experiences.

The Latest with EDGE Sound Research:

We have now shipped 35 out of 50 ResonX Bundles in the Alpha Program! The final ResonX Bundles will be shipped in the next week. We appreciate all the insightful feedback we have gained from Alpha Users so far. This feedback is essential in our final stages of product development to provide the best possible experience from our ResonX Bundle.

In addition, we are now building our setup for NAMM held in Anaheim June 3-5th. We are using IKEA outdoor furniture to showcase the ability to turn any infrastructure into the most badass sound experience. This setup will test a modular amp structure that will allow for experiences with 8 ResonX Core units.

Also, we are partnering with NAMM to host a songwriting camp for upcoming University artists. We will be mixing and mastering each track with a ResonX at NAMM to demonstrate the ability to reliably create content in any environment. The listening party for the songwriting camp will be hosted at our booth on the last day of NAMM (Booth 8505).

Lastly, we have recently been on the road to demo our ResonX units at multiple locations. A few weeks ago, I drove to Las Vegas to meet with DJ Bonics at Jardin to hand-deliver a ResonX Bundle. It was awesome showcasing the ResonX to numerous people at Jardin and hearing the managing partner call the experience "the future of audio". Also, we traveled to Kansas City to meet with Dimensional Innovations, where we had an amazing time touring their facilities and discussing how they can use our ResonX systems for future installations. And just yesterday, I was in NYC to provide even more demos for new opportunities!

We are excited to close out May strong and announce more exciting news in June!

Holy Sh*t Experience of the Week:

This photoshoot is so smart it blows my mind every time. A definite Holy Sh*t for any photographers out there!

News in Gaming:

It has been a slow few weeks in the world of gaming but we still have a couple interesting bits to share in this week's edition of Sonic Pioneers. The first thing we have is Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), a venture capital firm, is creating a fund specifically for gaming startups who are looking to build games in the upcoming world of the Metaverse. Aptly named “Dubbed Games Fund One” the fund aims to help create the building blocks for what they believe will become “the dominant way people spend time”. As of today the fund boasts a hefty $3 billion and is quickly attracting donors from all over the game developing world. It's incredibly interesting to see all the excitement the gaming community has for the Metaverse, with companies all over the world readying to get their own foothold in the world before it's even released. All we can hope for is that all this excitement and money being funneled into Zuckerberg's latest passion product can really provide the next step in our virtual experience, but right now all we can do is wait.

The final piece in gaming news for this week comes from the latest look at Sony greatly anticipated God of War: Ragnarok. As part of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Santa Monica Studios released a peek at over 60 different accessibility options that they will have available in their coming release. From colorblind modes, subtitle controls, and many many more settings that reach a wide range of adaptive needs. This is always a welcome sight as it shows us that the world of gaming is moving in a direction that is aimed at the inclusion and enjoyment of everyone. With more advancements always in development and new minds joining the industry we can accessibility to reach greater heights especially with the previously mentioned Metaverse on the horizon.

News in Audio Engineering/Production:

Our first piece of news comes from Melbourne where sound engineer Luke Elliot has created a nice throwback to analogue recording tech. His device, the Pitchi, was created for users who were something interpersonal and simple to use. With only 4 knobs and a built in mic the Pitchi intend to be used for whatever the user is looking for or simply as a tool for experimentation. With recording technology advancements always adding a new gimmick or special trick to a plethora of devices it's fun to see something simple for a change. We’re definitely looking forward to seeing exactly how the production community makes use of such a simple yet interesting device.

News in Design:

This week's news in design hits on a somber note. At the age 78,  Peter Moore, a legend in the art of shoe design has passed away. Having created many masterpieces at both Nike and Adidas; Moore is mostly known for his creation of the Air Jordan 1 in 1985, giving birth to what would turn into the modern sneaker culture we see today. Without him basketball players would most likely still be playing converse and the age old debate of black vs white Air Force 1’s would never come to be. The shoe industry will greatly miss Peter, and definitely remain forever changed because of his involvement in it.

Peter Moore.
