June Edition of the Sonic Pioneers!

Welcome to another edition of the EDGE Sound Research newsletter, Sonic Pioneers. As always, we are thrilled to have you a part of our journey to fundamentally change how we perceive reality starting with reimagining audio experiences.

The Latest with EDGE Sound Research:

It has been another busy month for our team as we have been traveling all across the United States and Canada providing demo experiences in New York, Minneapolis, and Vancouver.

We started June with a BANG as we attended NAMM 2022 in Anaheim - Watch Sizzle Reel. This was our first conference since CES showcasing our ResonX technology. For our NAMM setup, we attached 8 ResonX modules to outdoor Ikea furniture for the most badass listening experience. It was amazing to hear all the feedback from professionals in the music industry as they experienced the new age of embodied audio.

Also, in partnership with NAMM & UCR EARS Student Group, we hosted a songwriting camp that led to amazing songs being created in three days (check them out). Each song was mastered with a ResonX Bundle and then enjoyed on our ResonX lounge on the last day of NAMM.

In addition, we held a giveaway at NAMM for a free ResonX Bundle. We had a total of 1024 entries in our ResonX Bundle Giveaway, and our lucky winner is Ashley Riveland. Thank you again to everyone who participated and joined our community!

Lastly, pre-orders of the ResonX Bundle are now available! It is only a $50 refundable deposit to secure your spot with only 100 pre-orders available for 2022 - Secure Spot Today

Listening Parties (New Segment):

We have hosted a few of many listening parties to showcase the dynamic nature of enjoying music with the ResonX.

Holy Sh*t Experience of the Week:

Each newsletter we will link one Holy Sh*t experience that is submitted by our community. If you have a Holy Sh*t experience, please be sure to send it over!

While not the usual Holy Sh*t Experience we're used to this week bid farewell with a sigh of sweet relief to the worlds most infamous web browser; Internet Explorer. If you are one of the few and very lucky that never experienced the pain of having to navigate IE just to download a different browser here's a video from TechQuickie that tells the story of the birth and constant fall of Internet Explorer.

News in Gaming:

It's been quite a while since our last issue and the world of gaming definitely did not take a break with us. Of all the amazing news to break within the last couple weeks, here are a few of our favorites.

To kick things off we got our first full length trailer and a hard release for Call of Duty’s next installment of Modern Warfare 2 and boy are we excited for it. Since Modern Warfare’s initial release in 2019 the game has maintained an average of 8 million players monthly, it's important to note this does not include those playing Warzone which touts its own record breaking numbers. Acting as a reawakening of sorts for the franchise, Modern Warfare brought together amazing graphics, sound design with a realistic punch, and gameplay that made the decades old genre feel like a brand beast into one incredibly exciting and fun experience. With recent highly anticipated games missing the mark, Modern Warfare 2 is a light at the end of the tunnel we cannot wait to experience.

Next we have the exciting announcement of Fallout 5… sort of…With the release of Starfield on the horizon and the anticipation of another Elder Scrolls game beyond that, many Bethesda fans are left wondering if we're ever going to see another Fallout game. To ease feelings of worry Todd Howard mentioned in a recent interview that Fallout 5 is definitely coming…as soon as they are done making Elder Scrolls 6 which itself hasn't had any news since its title card tease back in 2018. Though many Bethesda’s AAA franchise releases are considered gaming classics, what makes them more infamous than famous (other than numerous day one bugs) is the lengthy wait between releases and as the gaming world grows larger and technology grows more advanced the wait between releases only grows larger. One can only hope that Fallout 5 will make a debut before the next turn of a century, but in the meantime we have what looks to be an epic space adventure coming to us in 2023, and who knows; maybe Starfield will be the next Skyrim and receive multiple releases for decades to come.

Finally we have what seems to be the strangest bit of gaming news, Neil Blomkamp is announced to be directing a Gran Turismo movie. Known mostly for his Sci-Fi works, the director is taking on the racing franchise to create a story where a teenager takes the skills he learned from playing the game to become a real life race car driver. A interesting yet meta take the film is set to release sometime in August of 2023, not much is known in regards to the cast but with Blomkamp behind the wheel of this racing blockbuster were are sure to see some dynamic racing action and who know maybe it can be an experienced enhanced by the ResonX.

News in Audio Engineering/Production:

Moving on to this week's news in audio is the release of a new open standard created by U-He and Bitwig, CLAP. Standing for CL-ever A-udio P-lugin, CLAP is the next generation's answer in accessibility and saying  this can replace VSTs in the future could be right in a technical sense. The ability to more easily modulate plugin parameters is something that just NEEDS to be easier than it already is with VSTs.

However this can quite possibly alter the way plugins are sold. If what they say is true, the truly amazing part of this would be that plugins can talk to each other. This means that synthesizer plugins would not need to come with extensive LFO systems - the whole DAW structure can be modular.

News in Design:

In this week's news in design we take a close look on what could possibly be the airplane cabins of the future. The Crystal Cabin Awards acts as the world's only accolade for innovation in aircraft cabin design and production. A niche to be sure but with air travel being basically a necessity in today's day and age it only makes sense for designers to look for ways to create more comfortable and at the same time sustainable designs for passengers. From just a first look at these designs it is incredibly exciting to see what the future of comfort and accessibility that may become possible in future.

Airplane Cabins of the Future.

Closing Statement:

Thank you for reading our first newsletter! You are now a part of the sonic revolution. The future of audio is in your hands. If you know of anyone that belongs in the Sonic Pioneers community, please be sure to invite them.
